FAQ

  • What is a virtual doula?
A virtual doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, educational and practical support. Support is offered before, during and after childbirth through video calls, voice calls and messaging. With a virtual doula you can expect the same level of care, reassurance and knowledge as you would receive in person but delivered virtually.
  • How does Virtual Doula support me during the final weeks of my pregnancy and early labor?
We are dedicated to providing you with continuous, reliable support as you approach your due date. From 37 to 42 weeks of your pregnancy, we are on-call 24/7 to assist you in any way you need. The moment you think labor might be starting, simply call us. We'll promptly check in with you to assess the situation and provide guidance. When you're ready for full support, we be available at any time offering support, emotional encouragement and practical tips to ensure you have the best possible birthing experience.
  • What platform do you use for virtual support?
We use whatever works best for you whether it be Zoom or WhatsApp video. Before our first session, you will need to test your connection, camera angle, and audio setup so everything runs smoothly on the day.
  • Can my partner be involved in virtual support?
Absolutely. Virtual sessions are for both of you. We’ll help your partner feel confident with physical comfort techniques, emotional reassurance and practical tips throughout labour and birth.
  • What if I’m labouring at home before going to the hospital?
As soon as you have any sign of going into labour (don't worry, we teach you about how to identify the early signs of labour before you go into labour), you call us and we start checking in on you. Once you go to the hospital, we continue being available and continue supporting you during labour, birth and early postpartum, as needed.
  • What if I have a C-section?
Our support continues throughout all birth scenarios, including C-sections. We will be on-call or available via video before, during and after the birth. If you have a planned csection, we will check in with you on the day and talk through the birth plan. We will be available throuhought the day to answer any questions and keep yours and your partner's nerves at bay as you prepare to meet your baby. We will also be available to provide emotional support and assist with the first feeding or bonding time.
  • Can I message you between sessions or after the birth?
Yes! You can reach us by WhatsApp or email with any questions. We also offer messaging support for up to 6 weeks postpartum and you’ll have a postnatal debrief session to reflect on your experience and check in on your recovery.
  • What if my baby comes earlier or later than expected?
No problem. Your on-call period starts a few weeks before your due date and continues until birth. We’re flexible and prepared for early or late arrivals.
  • Will it really feel personal if we’re not in the same room?
Yes. While virtual support can’t replace touch, it can still provide deep connection and effective care. Through voice, breath, presence, and guidance, we help you feel seen, supported and empowered in one of life’s most powerful moments.
  • Still have questions or want to book a consultation?
We’d love to chat. Email us at virtualdoulas@gmail.com or book a free 15-minute consult to see if virtual doula care is right for you.
